Learning Highlights

When I think about myself as a learner I automatically think about school. Teachers play a big role in how I learn. If the teacher is a good lecturer I usually learn a lot and don't have to spend as much time reading the book. However, if the teacher isn't good at lecturing I rely heavily on the book. I find barriers though whenever I go to read a textbook. For some reason I find reading textbooks to be the most boring thing ever and I hate to do it. I never learn much from reading because no matter how many times I read the same text over and over it seems like I never remember what I just read. I do get excited though when I really understand a concept that I had difficulty with grasping. I am also a very visual person and learn more by seeing things. The more illustrations I have the more I understand. I'm also a hands on person and learn a lot that way too.

Learning Needs

My area of interest is Fluency Disorders. I find it so interesting that a person has no control over stuttering and they become so aggrevated.

A good essential question for me would be "What exactly happens when an interruption in speech is made? Is it neurologically connected? Cognitively connected? How can a person have no control over stuttering?"

I already know what stuttering is and how it is characterized. I know that it's common among childern and that it's a fluency disorder. What I don't know is what happens that causes a person to stutter. I would also like to learn what an SLP can do in therapy to reduce the probability of stuttering.

Essential Questions

Stuttering is an area of interest that captures my attention. My essential question for this topic would be, "What exactly happens when an interruption in speech is made? Is it neurologically connected? Cognitively connected?" I know that stuttering is a very common disorder especially among children. I also know that it is a characterized by being a dysfluency in speech. What I don't know is why it's caused or how it's caused. I'm also not too familiar on what a SLP would do in therapy to help stop or reduce the probability of stuttering occurances.
